Plain-English meanings of the trade words you will see on AYLENSALE — from job lots and grades to pickup codes.

Buying basics

Lot: One item or bundle that you bid on or buy as a single unit. The price covers everything in the lot.
Job lot: A mixed bundle of stock sold together for one price — often returns or overstock. Items are not priced one by one, which is why resellers like them.
Pallet: Boxed stock stacked on a wooden base and wrapped for transport. A full UK pallet is about 120 × 100 cm and can be up to about 1.8 m tall; half and quarter pallets are smaller. You will need a van or a courier to move one.
Amazon returns: Items that customers sent back to Amazon, or unsold overstock. They can be new, opened, used or faulty — the grade tells you what to expect.
Buy now vs auction: Buy now is a fixed price: you pay online straight away. In an auction you place bids, and the highest bid when the timer ends wins (as long as the reserve is met).

Grade (A–D): Our condition score for a lot. Grade A is the best (mostly new or like new); grade D is the lowest (salvage, spares or faulty).
RRP: Recommended retail price — what the items originally sold for new in shops. It shows the potential value, not what you will resell them for.
Manifest: A list of what is inside a lot: item names, quantities and often the RRP. Download it before you buy to check the contents.
Unmanifested: No item list is available, so you buy on the photos and description only. Higher risk, usually a lower price.
Untested / sold as seen: Nobody has checked whether the items work. Expect some to be faulty. There are no change-of-mind returns.

Reserve price: The lowest price the seller will accept. If bidding ends below it, the lot does not sell. “Reserve met” means the current bid is high enough to sell.
Auction Pay: The fee that unlocks bidding on all live auctions. Browsing and watching lots is free — you only need it when you want to bid. The price is shown before you pay.
Bids are binding: A bid is a promise to buy at that price if you win. Winners pay within the stated deadline, usually 48 hours.
Minimum bid step: Each new bid must be at least £1 higher than the current bid. You can always bid more than the minimum.
Auto-bid: Set the most you are willing to pay. We bid for you in £1 steps only when someone outbids you, and never above your maximum.
Extended timer (anti-sniping): If a bid arrives in the final minutes, a few minutes are added to the clock so everyone has a fair chance to respond. “Extended ×2” means this has happened twice.
Business or consumer buyer: Choose business if you buy to resell. Choose consumer if the goods are for your own use — some legal rights are different.

Pickup code: A short code on your paid order. The warehouse only releases your goods to whoever shows it — you or your courier. Keep it private.
Free storage (3 working days): After payment we store your goods free for 3 working days, until 16:00 UK time. Weekends and bank holidays do not count.
Storage fee: After the free period, storage costs 5% of the goods’ value per working day, minimum £10 a day. Goods not collected within 14 working days are treated as abandoned.
Collection hours: Warehouse 4, Old Manton Station, Oakham LE15 8SZ. Open Mon–Fri 07:00–16:00 (closed weekends and bank holidays).
Self-collect: You, or a courier you book yourself, collect from our warehouse by showing your pickup code.
AYLENSALE driver (delivery partner): A vetted independent van driver who brings the goods to your address. Drivers quote for your job, you choose one, and you see the price before you confirm.
